Most Irish energy deals are a 12-month discount stapled to a much dearer standard rate, so the supplier with the loudest year-1 headline is often not the one you want at month 13. This matcher scores nine suppliers from our own dataset — verified estimated annual bills at CRU typical usage (4,200 kWh electricity, 11,000 kWh gas), urban and rural standing charges kept separate, exit fees and pay-as-you-go availability included — and shows you both years before you commit.
One thing we will not do is pretend to be a regulated comparator. matched.ie is not a CRU-accredited price-comparison site — the accredited sites are listed on cru.ie. Our results follow our editorial scores, and commission never affects them. Where we could not verify a euro figure this week, you will see a dash, never a guess.

How does the energy matcher choose a result?
It scores all nine suppliers in our own dataset against your answers: which fuels they sell, whether they offer pay-as-you-go, whether a plan exists for your meter type, and the verified year-1 and year-2 estimated annual bills at CRU typical usage. The ranking follows our editorial scores — commission never affects the result.
Is matched.ie a CRU-accredited price-comparison site?
No. The CRU accredits a small number of price-comparison sites, and matched.ie is not one of them. If you want a regulated comparator, the accredited list is published on cru.ie. What we offer instead is bespoke supplier reviews and this matcher, ranked by our own scores.
Why do you show year-2 cost as well as year 1?
Because most Irish energy deals are a 12-month discount on a much dearer standard rate. A supplier that looks cheapest in year 1 can cost hundreds more from month 13 if you drift onto its standard tariff. We show both figures so you can see the cliff before you sign, not on your fourteenth bill.
Do I need my MPRN or GPRN to use this quiz?
No. The quiz only asks about your fuels, meter and priorities. You will need your MPRN (the 11-digit electricity meter-point number, starting with 10) and GPRN (7 digits, gas) when you actually switch — both are printed on your bills, and the new supplier handles the paperwork from there.
Is prepay cheaper than bill pay?
Usually not. Pay-as-you-go plans typically carry higher unit rates plus a daily prepayment service charge that bill-pay customers never see, so the all-in annual cost at typical usage runs above a discounted bill-pay deal. What prepay genuinely offers is spend control and no credit check — the quiz treats both as honest reasons to choose it.
What usage do the euro figures assume?
CRU typical usage: 4,200 kWh of electricity and 11,000 kWh of gas a year, with urban (DG1) and rural (DG2) standing charges shown separately. Every figure was verified on the supplier’s own site the week we last checked; where a figure shows a dash, we have not verified it this week and will not print a guess.
