- ✓Key EU nuance: if you’re only visiting Ireland temporarily, EU portability rules mean your Polish subscription (Player.pl, Polsat Box Go, TVP VOD) works here with no VPN.
- ✓But if you live in Ireland, portability doesn’t cover you long-term — providers verify your country of residence — so a VPN to a Poland server is how you keep access.
- ✓A Poland server unlocks TVP VOD, Player.pl, Polsat Box Go and WP Pilot as if you were home.
- ✓Football: the Ekstraklasa and the Polish national team are on Polsat Box Go and Canal+, geo-locked to Poland.
- ✓Poland servers are physical and common across Europe, so speed is excellent — NordVPN, ExpressVPN and Surfshark all have them.
The quick answer
There’s a fork in the road, and it’s about your status, not your tech. If you’re in Ireland temporarily and still resident in Poland, an EU rule called cross-border portability means your Polish subscription — Player.pl, Polsat Box Go, TVP VOD — should work here with no VPN. If you live in Ireland, that rule stops covering you, so you connect a VPN to a Poland server for a Polish IP and watch as normal.
Visiting Ireland? EU portability gives you Polish TV for free. Living in Ireland? A Poland server does the same job.
The EU portability rule (the bit others miss)
This is the piece almost no VPN guide explains, and it can save you a subscription. Under the EU’s cross-border portability regulation, if you pay for an online content service in your home EU country, you’re entitled to access it — same content, no extra charge — while temporarily in another EU state. A Pole on holiday or a short work trip in Ireland can simply open Player.pl or Polsat Box Go and watch.
The catch is the word temporarily. The rule is written for trips — leisure, business, study — not for having moved. Once you’re resident in Ireland, you’re no longer a temporary visitor, and providers are allowed to verify your country of residence (through your payment details, address, licence fee or internet contract). At that point portability no longer applies, the Polish service treats you as being in Ireland, and geo-blocking kicks back in. That’s exactly the gap a VPN to Poland fills.
The main Polish services
With a Polish IP (or portability, if you’re visiting), here’s what opens up:
- Player.pl (TVN) — TVN’s drama, entertainment and reality, one of Poland’s biggest streamers.
- Polsat Box Go — Polsat’s films, series and, crucially, a lot of live sport including football.
- TVP VOD & TVP Sport — the public broadcaster’s catch-up and sport, geo-locked to Poland.
- WP Pilot — a free live-TV aggregator (many Polish channels), restricted to Poland.
Polish football (the Ekstraklasa)
Sport is a major reason to reach for a Poland server. The Ekstraklasa — Poland’s top football division — along with the Polish national team and other competitions, is carried on Polsat Box Go and Canal+ within Poland, both geo-locked. If EU portability doesn’t cover you, connect a VPN to a Poland server, sign in to your subscription, and the match streams as it would at home. Live football is unforgiving of a slow link, but Polish servers are close and fast, so this is one of the smoother country feeds to run from Ireland.
The honest bit
Two honest points. First, check portability before you pay for a VPN — if you’re a genuine temporary visitor, EU law already gives you your Polish subscription here, and we’d rather you use that right than an unnecessary workaround. Second, if you’re resident and use a VPN to reach a Poland-only service, that can breach the platform’s terms of use — a contractual matter between you and the provider, not a criminal one, with no history of viewers being pursued. As always, a VPN here is for a legitimate subscription you hold, never a pirate “Polish TV” box.
How to watch, step by step
For residents needing a Poland server, start to finish is about four minutes:
- 1Check whether portability already covers you
If you’re in Ireland only temporarily (a holiday, a work trip) and remain resident in Poland, EU rules say your Polish subscription should just work here — try it before anything else. If you live in Ireland, read on.
- 2Get a VPN with a Poland server
For residents, connect through a Polish IP. NordVPN, ExpressVPN, Surfshark and Proton VPN all have physical Poland servers — see the picks below. Being in Europe, they’re fast.
- 3Connect to Poland
Open the VPN app, sign in, and connect to the Poland (Warsaw) location. You now have a Polish IP, so Polish services treat you as a local viewer.
- 4Open the app and play
Launch Player.pl, Polsat Box Go, TVP VOD or WP Pilot, sign in to your account, choose your programme or match and press play. If a stream won’t load, switch to another Poland server and reload.
Which VPNs work
The job is a fast physical Poland server with reliable unblocking of Player.pl, Polsat Box Go and TVP. Being in Europe, most big providers have them — from our testing, NordVPN, ExpressVPN and Surfshark all handle it, with Proton VPN and CyberGhost also covering Poland. Our top three:
